She mentions that feminists are often portrayed as these angry things that ruins society’s happiness by choosing to point out what is wrong with the world instead of what’s right about it.
By framing feminist thought as a critique of happiness, it suggests that the feminist subject should be understood as a “willful subject”. Sara Ahmed presents a lecture on Feminist Killjoys (And Other Willful Subjects) with a response, which situates this discussion particularly within contemporary art arenas.
